The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, providing billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing pollution. With nearly 6,000 employees, DEP's water supply system includes 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout its 2,000 square mile watershed.
The Bureau of Legal Affairs (BLA) serves as in-house counsel for DEP, managing four units that handle a wide range of legal matters. The Environmental Affairs unit within BLA is currently seeking an Assistant Counsel to represent DEP in cases involving the violation of local rules and regulations, provide legal advice on complex matters, and stay up-to-date on emerging laws and regulations.
The ideal candidate will have a law degree from an accredited US law school and be admitted to the New York State Bar. They should also have excellent writing, research, analytical, and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment. New York City residency is not required for this position.
This is a non-competitive entry-level position with a salary range of $70, - $85,. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the Senior Enforcement Counsel and will have the opportunity to gain experience in the legal field while representing a major city agency.
