Job Responsibilities:
- Serve in a confidential capacity with substantial independence from supervision.
- Research legal questions and issues, organize investigations, and prepare and present cases before administrative tribunals and courts.
- Provide legal research and advocacy services in the **Members Only**, attorney disciplinary committees, 18B panel administration, or other similar units.
- Oversee a departmental law guardian program as needed.
- Focus primarily on appellate practice, requiring exceptional legal writing and research skills.
- Assist in litigating a varied and proactive docket of mental health legal advocacy matters, including cases initiated in both the State and Federal courts, at both appellate and trial levels.
- Responsible for cases selected by the Deputy Chief Attorney in charge of Special Litigation and Appeals.
- Conduct in-depth legal research and draft high-quality written submissions such as appellate briefs, motion papers, and memoranda of law.
- Present oral arguments before appellate courts.
- Conclude litigation successfully, whether resulting in an order, judgment, or settlement.
- Complete assignments under strict time constraints.
- Travel to appellate courts within New York State as required.

Education and Experience Information:
- Admission to the New York State bar.
- Two (2) years of service in the Attorney title or equivalent legal experience.

Salary Information:
- Base salary: $99,490 + $4,920 location pay.

While a position is available at a specific location, the appointee may be reassigned to any position in the same title within this promotion unit, depending on the needs of the Unified Court System.
