Job Title: Deputy Attorney General, OAG, Health & Human Services Division

Job Responsibilities:
The Deputy Attorney General will provide legal advice and representation for the Department of Health & Welfare. Primary duties include participating in administrative proceedings and occasionally handling appeals in district court. The areas of practice involve offering advice and counsel to the Department of Health & Welfare related to the Licensing and Certification Division, Medicaid Program Integrity Unit, and Welfare Fraud. The position requires close collaboration with other Deputy Attorney Generals in the Health & Human Services Division. Additional responsibilities may encompass limited litigation, contract review and drafting, legislative analysis, administrative rule drafting and analysis, and all aspects of administrative actions, which could potentially include drafting orders and handling appeals of administrative orders. The role also involves reviewing department policies for legal compliance, providing advice on substantive legal issues for department staff, and addressing public records law. The candidate will conduct training for co-workers and department staff and perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Qualifications for this position include being a member of the Idaho State Bar and exhibiting strong research, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills. Preferred qualifications include a minimum of two years of legal experience and knowledge of Medicaid and/or the healthcare industry.

Salary Information:
The salary for the Deputy Attorney General position is dependent on experience (DOE), ranging from $90,000 to DOE. Additionally, the position offers state employee benefits that include low-cost health and dental insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, 11 paid holidays, multiple retirement savings plans, flexible spending accounts, paid parental leave, and participation in one of the nation’s best state retirement systems (PERSI). The Office is also a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).

The position is exempt from state classified service and the rules of the Division of Human Resources and the Idaho Personnel Commission, and it is an at-will position.
