Job Title: Assistant General Counsel

Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant General Counsel position within the organization involves a variety of legal duties primarily concerning personnel and civil service law. The selected candidate will be responsible for preparing reports for the City Civil Service Commission (CCSC) that detail the legal basis for disqualifying candidates from civil service positions. This role also includes representing the organization at hearings before the CCSC. Additionally, the candidate will collaborate with the Citywide Human Capital Line of Service to draft and review public notices for competitive civil service examinations, ensuring their legal adequacy. The Assistant General Counsel will work alongside the NYC Law Department to defend the organization in litigation related to personnel and civil service law and represent the agency in proceedings initiated by EEO complaints filed with federal, state, and local human rights agencies. The role requires conducting legal research and providing legal counsel on issues pertaining to personnel and civil service law.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must have admission to the New York State Bar. They must also meet one of the following criteria: one year of satisfactory . legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar or six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086). Incumbents must maintain good standing as members of the New York State Bar throughout their employment. For assignment to Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates are required to have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to bar admission in relevant areas of law. For assignment to AL III, candidates need two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience following bar admission in related legal areas.

Salary Information:
The salary range for the Assistant General Counsel position is $93, to $107,.
