Job Responsibilities:
The 2026 2L Patent Prosecution Summer Associate role at the law firm involves a variety of responsibilities designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience in the field of patent prosecution. Participants in the summer associate program will receive extensive training in all aspects of patent prosecution. This includes opportunities to engage in analysis work, due diligence, and litigation support. Summer associates will have the chance to participate in the law firm's unique Patent Boot Camp training program, which is designed to enhance their understanding and skills in patent law.

Moreover, summer associates will be mentored by the law firm's leading Intellectual Property (IP) partners, providing them with invaluable insights and guidance from experienced professionals. The role also includes financial support for taking the . Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) exam, further preparing associates for a career in patent law. During the program, associates will work directly with seasoned lawyers on substantive client matters, receiving unparalleled mentorship and comprehensive practice and professional skills training. This role offers a firsthand experience of the law firm's shared values, inclusive community, and diverse practice areas.

Education and Experience Information:
To be eligible for the 2026 2L Patent Prosecution Summer Associate position, candidates must be currently enrolled and in good standing in a full-time Juris Doctor (.) program at an American Bar Association (ABA)-accredited law school. Applicants must have . citizenship or authorization to work in the United States. Additionally, candidates must be either a registered patent agent or qualified to sit for the USPTO exam.

For candidates interested in joining the technology group, the law firm is seeking individuals with backgrounds in engineering and/or computer science. For those interested in the life sciences group, candidates with graduate-level degrees in life sciences, plant biology, chemistry, and/or medicine are preferred.

Salary Information:
The compensation for the 2026 2L Patent Prosecution Summer Associate position is set to align with first-year associate salaries, which is currently $225,000 annually for the class of 2025. It is noted that this compensation may be modified in the future. In addition to the salary, the position may include health and wellness benefits and paid holidays.
