Job Title: Senior Staff Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage caseload and supervise related casework, ensuring effective representation of CAIR-NJ clients.
- Coordinate the legal intake process with other staff, including case selection and referrals.
- Actively participate in all aspects of CAIR-NJ litigation, contributing to strategic case development and management.
- Engage in alternative dispute resolution to address and resolve legal issues efficiently.
- Work strategically and collaborate with CAIR-NJ staff, including advocacy and media departments, to enhance the impact of legal efforts.
- Participate in community education initiatives, such as conducting Know Your Rights workshops, to empower and inform the community.
- Assist in the production of reports and written documents to support legal and advocacy efforts.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, affected communities, law firms, law schools, legal clinics, and allied legal groups to advance the organization’s legal and policy work.
Education and Experience Information:
- . degree from an American Bar Association accredited school with admission in good standing with the NJ Bar.
- At least 3 years of experience practicing as an attorney, demonstrating a commitment to advancing the rights of low-income and under-served communities.
- Knowledge of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, especially Title VII, and the First Amendment, as well as familiarity with EEOC and other administrative procedures.
Bonus, Non-Required Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of the American Muslim community, which can enhance the effectiveness of advocacy and representation.
- Experience drafting claim letters and organizing or working in coalition spaces to advance the rights of low-income and under-served communities.
- Proficiency with legal research and legal search engines, aiding in effective case preparation and management.
- Bilingual skills in a relevant language, which can be beneficial in serving a diverse client base.
Salary Information:
- Annual salary of $95,000 – $110,000, commensurate with experience.
- Fully paid health insurance for the employee.
- Up to 3% retirement matching contribution.
