Job Responsibilities
The Healthcare Regulatory Attorney, also known as the Regulatory Counsel, plays a pivotal role within the company by providing legal guidance and strategic support to the company's campuses and staff. This role is heavily focused on responding to governmental investigations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and addressing operational legal concerns. Key responsibilities include:
- Representing and defending the company's campuses in Medicaid Fraud & Patient Abuse investigations conducted by state regulatory bodies. This includes preparing witnesses, conducting investigative interviews, drafting legal arguments, and responding to subpoenas.
- Responding to Coroner’s investigations by reviewing subpoenas, analyzing records, advising on internal investigations, and corresponding with coroner’s offices.
- Assisting in Consumer Complaint investigations by providing legal advocacy, preparing interviews, and reviewing documentation.
- Representing campus staff in state board licensure investigations, particularly those involving administrators or nurses based on complaints from residents or their families.
- Advising and supporting campus leadership and clinical teams in managing involuntary discharge processes and handling resident or family appeals.
- Staying informed about federal and state healthcare regulations, and providing guidance to Operations & Clinical teams on regulatory developments.
- Developing and implementing training programs on compliance with healthcare laws, including HIPAA, anti-kickback laws, fraud and abuse statutes, and Medicare/Medicaid regulations.
- Collaborating with Clinical Risk Management to review medical record requests and subpoenas to ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
- Providing oversight and strategic insight on various projects related to regulatory compliance within the Compliance & Customer Experience team.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Information
The position requires a Juris Doctorate in Law (JD) and admission to the bar in at least one of the company's four primary states of operation. Candidates should have 5-8 years of relevant experience.
