Job Title: Internship Program, Fall (Unpaid)
Job Responsibilities:
- Interns will work under various divisions within the Office of the Attorney General, gaining practical experience in legal fields relevant to their academic pursuits.
- Responsibilities will vary according to the division, including but not limited to:
- Conducting legal research and assisting in litigation efforts in the Antitrust Division, which focuses on enforcing state and federal antitrust laws and reviewing mergers and acquisitions.
- Assisting the Consumer Protection Division in enforcing the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, investigating and litigating against deceptive or unfair practices.
- Supporting the Criminal and Capital Appeals Division in representing State prosecutions in criminal appeals across various courts.
- Participating in the Civil Litigation Division's efforts to represent the State in a wide array of civil lawsuits, including class actions and complex litigation.
- Engaging with the Civil Legal Services Division to provide legal services to State agencies, including representation in hearings and courts.
- Involvement with the Child Support Enforcement Bureau to assist in establishing and enforcing child support orders and modifications.
- Collaborating with the Revenue Litigation Bureau on matters involving contested tax assessments and tax law administration.
- Contributing to the Ethics Bureau by prosecuting potential violations of the Florida Code of Ethics.
- Engaging with the Lemon Law Arbitration Division to enforce compliance with Florida’s motor vehicle “Lemon Law.”
- Assisting the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit in investigating and prosecuting fraud related to Medicaid billing practices.
- Supporting the Office of Statewide Prosecution in prosecuting crimes that impact multiple judicial circuits in Florida.
- Working with the Cyber Fraud Enforcement Unit to combat cybercrimes related to fraud and identity theft.
- Assisting the Office of the Solicitor General in handling the State’s sensitive and complex litigation and advising on various legal matters.
Education and Experience Information:
- The program is open to law students enrolled in an accredited ABA law school.
- Internships are available for academic credit and through participation in law school-sponsored programs, such as Pro Bono Programs, Law School sponsored clinics, or Law School Paid Stipend programs.
- 2nd and 3rd-year law students are expected to provide a writing sample at the time of the interview if selected.
- Documentation from an advisor or university is required to confirm enrollment and eligibility for academic credit or participation in a sponsored program.
Salary Information:
- The internship is unpaid, and participants will not be compensated or eligible for benefits, except for Worker’s Compensation benefits.
Application Process:
- Interested students must complete and submit the appropriate application packet by the specified deadline for the desired term: Spring (September 30, 2024), Summer (February 28, 2025), or Fall (June 30, 2025).
