Special Counsel Position at National Immigration Law Center (NILC)
- Responsible for handling complex legal issues and projects
- Collaborates with Executive and Senior Leadership Teams to advance NILC's mission

Responsibilities:
- Analyze federal actions related to the Alien Enemies Act and Insurrection Act of 1807
- Engage in and supervise litigation in federal and state courts
- Serve as a liaison between NILC and partner organizations
- Collaborate with partner organizations and NILC's Legal Department
- Present at conferences and outreach events
- Draft policy papers and other publications
- Serve as primary advisor on strategy and response to legal issues affecting immigrant community
- Draft pleadings, briefs, and lead discovery
- Supervise assigned attorneys
- Manage overall litigation strategy
- Respond to urgent requests and provide legal guidance
- Provide expertise and technical guidance to Advocacy departments
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Recruit, interview, hire, and train staff
- Oversee daily workflow of direct reports
- Act as a coach and mentor
- Manage outside consultants and vendors
Shared Organization Responsibilities:
- Champion NILC's mission and values
- Attend and participate in NILC meetings
- Develop relationships and support colleagues across all teams
- Follow through on commitments
- Learn quickly and act with integrity

Qualifications Required:
- Juris Doctorate and member in good standing of a State Bar
- Service as Senior Counsel or Managing Attorney of non-profit organization or large governmental agency
- Minimum of 10 years of legal experience in a cross-cultural setting
- Minimum of 7 years leading complex litigation in Federal courts
- 5+ years of supervisory experience in the legal field
- Skills in managing a diverse workload
- Visionary leadership and strong interpersonal skills
- Computer literacy
Work Environment:
- Up to 30% overnight interstate travel may be required
- Quarterly travel to Washington, . office or other location within the US for 3-5 nights
Compensation and Benefits:
