Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis on complex issues related to school finance and property taxation
- Summarize legal findings in a coherent written memorandum or brief for submission to clients, courts, or arbitrators
- Analyze and provide recommendations for complicated legal documents, such as contracts, and negotiate with outside parties on contractual issues and legal disputes
- Perform discovery of various electronically stored data and hard copies of information in preparation for litigation
- Proactively identify and address potential legal problems for clients and develop strategies to avoid costly litigation and mitigate risks
- Conduct due diligence for legal matters related to contracts and agreements
- Build strong and trusting relationships with clients based on ethical and professional conduct
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school
- Admission to the Illinois State Bar
- 2-3 years of applicable experience in public finance and taxation, preferably with a background in finance/accounting, real estate transactions, real estate appraisal, and legal requirements relating to public finance
