Job Title: Matter Mobility Data Technician
Job Responsibilities:
The Matter Mobility Data Technician will be a pivotal member of the Information Governance Department at a law firm. The technician will manage all technical aspects of mobilizing client records into and out of the firm. This role requires collaboration with practice groups, administrative departments, the General Counsel, Office Administrators, and other relevant staff to ensure adherence to the firm's information governance processes and procedures.
Essential functions include:
- Demonstrating an expert understanding of electronic client data, which is crucial for the collection, analysis/review, secure transport, and documentation of such data.
- Working with newly integrated attorneys and coordinating with the IT department at the prior firm to retrieve matter data.
- Communicating effectively with Attorneys, Client Service Specialists, and other Business Professionals as new data comes in, and tracking data that is received.
- Advising attorneys to open matters as new data is received and assisting them in providing a cross-reference of old to new matters.
- Providing timely reports by writing queries and joining tables using SQL. Designing SQL scripts that can be easily manipulated to efficiently address similar future analyses.
- Following established procedures to protect the integrity and authenticity of records.
- Maintaining an in-depth understanding of industry trends and evolving technology.
Additional functions may include other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
Education:
- An Associate degree or certification with a focus in computer science/scripting/software is required.
- A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- A combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of prior experience in data migration is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in matter mobility is preferred.
- Prior experience with PL/SQL & SQL Plus background is necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Proficiency in SQL.
- Knowledge of document management systems, preferably iManage.
- Ability to write queries and join tables for reports.
- Capability to recognize data in load files and translate prior to import into iManage.
- Skilled in combining multiple and manipulating data.
- Proficiency in Excel.
- Ability to handle voluminous projects, meet deadlines, and complete tasks accurately.
- Agility in handling shifting priorities and effective teamwork skills.
- Detail orientation, accuracy, adaptability, outstanding client service, and ability to analyze for best solutions.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
The position operates in a clerical, office setting and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. It requires sedentary work, involving sitting most of the time, with occasional walking and standing necessary to carry out job duties. The role demands close visual acuity for activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
