Job Title: Sales & Use Tax Practice Leader - Remote Eligible
Job Responsibilities:
As a Sales and Use Tax Practice Leader, you will play a critical role within the company's State and Local Tax team. Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the primary leader for all sales and use tax matters, providing strategic direction, technical guidance, and mentorship to team members at various levels.
- Expanding an already established practice by nurturing existing client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and enhancing the company's reputation in the marketplace.
- Leading business development efforts, which involve proposal development, networking, speaking engagements, and creating go-to-market strategies.
- Managing and developing a talented team, supporting their career growth, providing regular coaching and feedback, and fostering an environment of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Directing and overseeing sales and use tax consulting engagements, including nexus evaluations, taxability analyses, liability quantification, audit support, voluntary disclosures, process optimization, refund claims, transaction advisory, and more.
- Overseeing all aspects of engagement execution, from initial scoping and budgeting to staffing, project management, and client communication.
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments, issuing internal alerts and client communications to keep stakeholders informed and agile.
- Contributing to thought leadership through authored content, webinars, presentations, and training sessions.
- Participating in regular professional development activities to stay at the forefront of state and local tax trends.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a Master of Taxation, MBA, JD, or LLM in Taxation highly preferred.
- A minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in state and local sales and use tax is required, including experience as a Senior Manager.
- A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, sales/use tax certification (CMI), JD, or LLM in Taxation is required.
- A deep understanding of multistate sales/use tax matters is essential, along with experience in nexus and taxability analysis, VDAs, audit management, process improvement, exposure mitigation, transaction advisory, and recovery strategies.
- The candidate should be skilled in business development, capable of identifying client needs, crafting compelling solutions, and building long-term relationships.
- A proven track record of building and growing a successful practice or book of business is necessary, demonstrating initiative, strategic thinking, and sustainable client engagement.
- Strong leadership skills are required, with a commitment to team development, mentorship, and creating a culture of accountability and collaboration.
- Confidence in leading with vision and purpose is essential, with the ability to set priorities, build consensus, and inspire those around you.
- Experience in areas such as gross receipts/excise taxes, negotiated incentives, property tax, or unclaimed property is a bonus.
Salary Information:
- Compensation for the Sales & Use Tax Practice Leader role ranges from $180,000 to $255,000.
