Job Summary: Staff Attorney position available in the Upper Marlboro District Court Self Help Center in Upper Marlboro, MD. Provide legal advice and assistance to self-represented litigants in a variety of civil legal matters. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $74, - $115, annually.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Offer brief legal advice and information to self-represented litigants in civil legal matters such as landlord-tenant disputes, consumer issues, and criminal record expungements.
- Assist litigants with drafting pleadings and motions, preparing for trial, and understanding court documents and the law.
- Make referrals to appropriate legal service organizations and agencies when necessary.
- May require local travel between various offices.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position's essential functions.

Qualifications:
- Admitted to practice law in the State of Maryland.
- One year or more of civil litigation experience and clinical or clerkship experience will be considered.
- Familiarity with Westlaw for legal research.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate complex legal concepts in simple terms.
- Fluency in Spanish and American Sign Language preferred.
- Ability to travel to different offices at short notice.

Work Environment:
Work is typically performed in a general office setting with regular communication via phone, email, and videoconferencing. Some duties may require work in a community setting or remotely.

Salary Information:
- Salary range for this position is $74, - $115, annually.
- Salary is determined according to MCLA's Workers Union's current salary scale, subject to annual revision through collective bargaining negotiations.
- Salary placement is based on admission date to a . state bar and continuous full-time legal work experience following admission.
