Job Title: Assistant Attorney General V
Job Responsibilities:
- Represent state law enforcement agencies, officials, and employees in lawsuits involving civil rights, employment law, torts, constitutional law, religious liberties, and class actions in both state and federal courts.
- Handle all aspects of litigation, including legal research, memoranda, witness preparation, client communications, case briefings, written discovery, depositions, pre-trial motions, dispositive motions (., motions for summary judgment), hearings, mediations, trials throughout Texas in both state and federal court as lead counsel and/or co-counsel, and post-trial debriefings.
- Provide excellent client service and function well with other attorneys and staff within a dynamic office environment.
- Offer legal advice, counsel, and assistance to client state agencies and law enforcement entities.
- Perform related work as assigned and maintain relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions.
- Attend work regularly in compliance with the agreed-upon work schedule.
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.
- Manage a docket of complex level cases.
Education and Experience Information:
- Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (.) degree.
- Experience: Four years of full-time experience as a licensed attorney working in civil litigation or closely related fields.
- Must be licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. Must be eligible to practice law in Texas by the start date.
- Experience in civil litigation in both federal and state courts.
- Knowledge of relevant law and legal principles and practices.
- Excellent organization and administrative skills, including strong, consistent attention to detail and an organized work style.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, with a potential requirement for a writing sample for selected interviewees.
- Skill in conducting legal research.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and effective decision-making.
- Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA.
- Ability to work in person at the assigned work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated workspace, and work in-person with coworkers for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave).
- Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
- Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel.
- Ability to travel, including overnight travel, up to 25%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Four or more years as a licensed attorney practicing in civil litigation.
- Courtroom experience in state and/or federal court, including hearings and jury trials.
- Tried at least two jury trials to a verdict in state and/or federal district court.
Salary Information:
- Salary (Pay Basis): 11, - 13, (Monthly).
Additional Information:
- The position is full-time with standard hours of per week.
- The job is exempt from overtime status.
