A law firm seeks a Mid-Level Litigation Associate to join its San Francisco office, specializing in managed care disputes. The role involves leading complex commercial litigation and arbitration matters in the healthcare space.

Duties

  • Serve as primary point of contact for clients, coordinating litigation strategy and communications

  • Oversee and manage multiple case files from inception through resolution, including drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery responses

  • Collaborate with other associates, paralegals, and support staff to ensure efficient case progression

  • Participate in depositions, hearings, and arbitration proceedings, presenting persuasive arguments on behalf of clients

  • Conduct in-depth legal research on managed care and healthcare-related issues, synthesizing findings for case strategy

  • Advise clients on risk mitigation, regulatory considerations, and dispute resolution options

  • Support senior attorneys in developing case theories, preparing trial exhibits, and drafting briefs

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in complex commercial litigation and arbitration, preferably with exposure to managed care or broader healthcare disputes

  • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple matters simultaneously and act as the central coordinator for litigation tasks

  • Excellent written advocacy, oral presentation, and analytical skills

  • Strong organizational skills with a commitment to meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Active membership in the California State Bar

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Exceptional academic credentials, reflecting the rigor of complex civil litigation training

Certifications

  • Admission to practice before California state courts

  • Any healthcare law or dispute resolution certifications (preferred but not required)

Skills

  • Proficiency in drafting sophisticated legal documents (complaints, motions, briefs, discovery requests)

  • Advanced legal research capabilities using tools such as Westlaw or LexisNexis

  • Ability to distill complex managed care regulations into actionable case strategies

  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster collaborative teamwork and maintain client confidence

  • Aptitude for developing creative arguments and anticipating opposing counsel’s tactics

  • Comfortable working independently as well as mentoring junior team members
