Job Title: Conflicts Business Partner
Job Responsibilities:
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of professional responsibility rules and conflicts of interest related to new client intake, new matter intake, and lateral attorney intake, along with relevant firm procedures, policies, and practices.
- Acquire experience and demonstrate knowledge regarding firm clients, attorneys, and related lines of business to efficiently resolve conflict issues.
- Review conflict reports prepared by the client intake team, identify potential conflicts, assist attorneys in resolving these conflicts, draft conflict waivers and/or engagement letter provisions, and provide necessary information to the client intake team to establish ethical screens for new client, matter, or lateral attorney intake.
- Review preliminary conflict disclosures for lateral attorney candidates and submit them to the client intake team for conflict checks; communicate potential conflicts to firm attorneys and provide lateral recruiting and client intake teams with summaries of potential conflicts and steps required to resolve them.
- Identify representations where the firm is adverse to an incoming lateral attorney’s former firm, request implementation of ethical screens by the client intake team, and send required written notices to appropriate tribunals as per applicable rules of professional conduct.
- Manage the process of preparing, transmitting, and tracking client notification letters and firm selection forms for new lateral attorney hires.
- Perform or supervise legal research and analysis on professional responsibility issues as requested by the firm's office of General Counsel.
- Provide legal guidance and support to the Loss Prevention team on issues relating to engagement letter and waiver templates.
- Assist the client intake team with monitoring and responding to conflict check requests by timekeepers and support staff if time permits and there is a need.
Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor (JD) required.
- Prior experience in legal professional responsibility/ethics/conflicts area.
- Experience in a law firm is strongly preferred.
