Job Title:
Staff Attorney - Dade City (Full-Time)

Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney position at the organization involves providing counsel and advice, as well as representing clients in civil legal proceedings, primarily focusing on family law matters such as dissolution of marriage, paternity proceedings, and modifications. The role also encompasses handling cases related to domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking, and other injunction matters. The Staff Attorney will be supervised by the Team Leader of the Dade City office and is expected to deliver qualified legal services to low-income clients to address their civil legal needs.

Key responsibilities include:
- Representing victims of crime in court proceedings, including emergency advocacy.
- Advising and assisting clients in connection with crime victim compensation.
- Interviewing applicants to determine eligibility for established legal services, documenting client case information, and ensuring compliance with Legal Services Corporation (LSC) or other grantor requirements.
- Communicating with clients to learn about their legal needs, providing counsel, advice, and referring them to appropriate public agencies or community resources.
- Developing and implementing strategies to resolve cases favorably, preparing legal documents accurately and in a timely manner, and researching relevant legal materials.
- Negotiating case settlements with opposing attorneys or parties.
- Preparing necessary correspondence related to services rendered and maintaining relationships with commonly adverse organizations to facilitate case resolution.
- Representing clients in hearings before various courts and administrative bodies, and summarizing cases to judges.
- Traveling to client meetings or hearings and trials as necessary.
- Supervising legal assistants and other legal personnel such as interns and paralegals.
- Assisting other poverty program components and offering advice in public relations, participating in community activities, including organization in-house committees and Florida Bar events.
- Staying informed about current legislation, attending Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses or other trainings to maintain or gain expertise.
- Performing other duties as designated by the Team Leader.

Education and Experience Information:
The minimum qualifications for the Staff Attorney position include:
- A Juris Doctorate (JD), licensed by the Florida Bar, and in good standing.
- Ability to work independently and organize and review the work of others.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent prioritization skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Experience with legal database systems for documenting case assignments.
- A sympathetic and compassionate understanding of the social, economic, and legal issues faced by low-income individuals, with the ability to relate effectively with diverse groups and individuals.

Desirable qualifications include:
- Preferably 2 or more years of family law litigation experience, although quality recently licensed applicants will be considered.
- Previous experience in a non-profit legal services setting.
- Some experience with legal database systems.
- Bilingual Spanish/English skills are a plus.

Salary Information:
The minimum salary for the Staff Attorney position is $60,350 per year, with increases based on relevant experience. The organization offers reimbursement for travel expenses and a comprehensive benefits package including a 4% match for the 403b retirement plan with immediate vesting, as well as medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage. Additional benefits include generous time off, a work-life balance with 13 paid holidays, three weeks’ vacation for the first year of employment, and a work week. Attorneys may also be eligible for loan forgiveness programs through the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) and the Florida Bar Foundation (FBF).

Additional Requirements:
The position requires successful completion of a level II background screening based on the duties and responsibilities.
