Job Title: Legal Clerk - Entry Level to Full Performance - Maui

Job Responsibilities:
Legal Clerk I:
- Perform routine clerical work involving the preparation, typing, maintaining, and processing of legal forms, documents, and materials.
- Assist with more difficult tasks under closer supervision for training purposes.
- Perform other duties as required.

Legal Clerk II:
- Perform a wide variety of legal clerical work in support of attorneys, primarily involving the preparation, processing, and filing of moderately difficult legal clerical work.
- Carry out more difficult tasks under supervision and guidance on a progressively responsible basis.

Legal Clerk:
- Independently perform a wide variety of legal clerical work in support of attorneys.
- Prepare, process, and file a variety of complex legal and court documents with courts or quasi-judicial bodies.
- Prepare a successive variety of documents for each case, requiring a variety of specialized procedures for preparation, processing, and filing.
- Prioritize assignments to complete preparation and processing of legal and court documents for various cases within frequent time constraints and established deadlines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Information:
Legal Authorization to Work:
- Applicants must be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Legal Clerk I:
- Experience: Must have a combination of education and experience equivalent to one year of progressively responsible clerical work experience involving the preparation, typing, processing, and filing of legal documents, or receiving and examining complex business documents for compliance with statutory or contractual requirements.
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures; grammar, spelling, punctuation, word usage, and sentence construction; clerical requirements for preparing and typing complex documents and forms.
- Ability to accurately prepare, type, process, and file complex documents in proper format, research information and records, and operate computer equipment for legal documents and data management.

Legal Clerk II:
- Experience: Must have a combination of education and experience equivalent to one and a half years of progressively responsible legal clerical work experience involving the preparation, typing, processing, and filing of legal documents.

Legal Clerk:
- Specialized Experience: Two years of progressively responsible legal clerical work experience involving the preparation, typing, processing, and filing of legal documents.
- Knowledge of legal terminology; court functions; format, content, and use of legal documents; various types of court actions and associated processes; legal and office practices and procedures.
- Ability to prepare, process, and file a variety of legal and court documents in proper format and communicate effectively with others.

Substitutions Allowed:
- Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements will apply.

Skilled Typing:
- Applicants must be able to type accurately at the rate of 40 net words per minute using a computer, word processing, and/or other software applications.

Salary Information:
- Legal Clerk I: $3,354 to $4,240 per month (SR-10, Step C to I)
- Legal Clerk II: $3,621 to $4,582 per month (SR-12, Step C to I)
- Legal Clerk: $3,917 to $4,959 per month (SR-14, Step C to I)
- Note: Hiring rates will be based on the availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.
