The Director of Docketing Services at Husch Blackwell LLP is a highly influential and strategic role within the firm. The individual in this position will lead a team of docketing professionals and will be responsible for managing docketing services across the firm's IP and Litigation practice specialty centers. This is a full-time position that can be filled remotely or in any of our multiple locations across the United States. The ideal candidate is a motivated professional with extensive experience in legal docketing and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

• Directly supervise the Docketing Managers and fully manage the docketing staff and all docket-related services, including all calendaring and docketing in the litigation and intellectual property docket systems.
• Provide direction, development, and oversight of docketing services across the firm.
• Serve as a resource and subject matter expert to firm leadership concerning docketing services and procedures.
• Identify and analyze docketing technologies, trends, and best practices across the profession and the broader business community and work to adopt and implement such practices at the firm as appropriate.
• Build relationships with and serve as a resource and docketing subject matter expert to the firm’s attorneys.
• Collaborate with PSC Leaders and other stakeholders to ensure internal docketing procedures remain compliant with established rules and procedures.
• Audit docket entries in the Firm’s docketing systems for accuracy.
• Maintain a thorough working knowledge and ensure the proper maintenance and integrity of the Docket Department databases and systems and their support for day-to-day work production.
• Proactively engage with attorneys and leaders across the firm to ensure docketing concerns are being addressed promptly.
• Lead, supervise, and develop a cohesive team of highly capable docketing professionals who thrive in a complex work environment.
• Develop, implement, and oversee compliance with written policies and procedures for the docketing teams.
• Develop and implement training programs and protocols for new as well as experienced members of the docketing teams.
• Ensure consistent application of firm policy and adherence to risk management guidelines, as promulgated in conjunction with the Office of the Firm General Counsel, to minimize errors that could affect clients and potential malpractice exposure.
• Research current rule changes and communicate information regarding rule changes and/or changes in court procedures.
• Maintain knowledge base of e-filing requirements and procedures for the USPTO, all Federal courts, and those State and Local courts where Attorneys request e-filing assistance.
• Participate in professional organizations that promote ongoing education regarding Federal, State, and Local rule changes relating to deadlines and docketing, including . Patent and Trademark Office practices and procedures.
• Draft and oversee the departmental budgets to maximize return on investment, control costs, and use talent and resources efficiently.
• Oversee annual performance reviews, and recommendations for salary adjustments and bonuses, for the docketing teams.
• Direct and oversee hiring, firing, promotions, and creation/elimination of positions within the docketing teams.
• Work on a variety of ad hoc projects as needed.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
• Extensive legal docketing experience within a law firm environment in an attorney or senior paralegal role.
• Minimum of ten (10) years of increasingly responsible, directly related experience, including significant supervisory experience, in a law firm or similar professional services environment, during which the knowledge, skills, and abilities applicable to the position were demonstrated.
• Demonstrated subject matter expertise in docketing rules, practices, and procedures.
• Proficiency with Docket databases, preferably CompuLaw and Pattsy.
• Demonstrated ability to provide quality client service to internal and external contacts regarding routine and complex matters, and to develop and maintain effective business relationships with people of diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, and to make presentations to small and large groups in an effective manner.
• Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and commitment to innovating and enhancing the firm’s practices.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects in a dynamic and complex environment, meeting deadlines and successfully managing the daily workload.
