JFCS Immigration Legal Services, a department within JFCS Pittsburgh, is seeking a bilingual Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join their team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This is a full-time position with a hybrid work model, offering a collaborative work environment and diverse staff. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be culturally sensitive, with experience working in the legal field and with children.

Position Overview:

As a Legal Assistant/Paralegal at JFCS Immigration Legal Services, you will work directly with detained unaccompanied children to provide Know Your Rights presentations and preliminary legal intake screenings. This position requires travel to facilities in Western Pennsylvania and other locations within a few hours driving time.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide Know Your Rights presentations to unaccompanied children at detention facilities
- Conduct initial legal screenings and assist attorneys in determining relief options
- Act as a point of contact with shelter staff and maintain timely reporting and data management
- Assist children in completing forms, drafting affidavits, and preparing for court
- Maintain and update client immigration files
- Communicate professionally and appropriately with clients, staff, and government officials
- Participate in staff development and training opportunities
- Attend department meetings and other required meetings and trainings
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Cultural sensitivity and experience working with children
- Previous experience in the legal field is preferred
- Ability to travel to detention facilities within a few hours driving time
- Must be able to enter and submit timesheets in a timely manner
