Position Summary:

The Director of . Federal Policy and Advocacy leads the Center’s federal policy and advocacy program. This senior leadership role is responsible for developing and implementing strategic initiatives to advance the Center’s goals. The Director will also serve as a thought leader, ambassador, and collaborator, representing the Center externally and building relationships with key stakeholders. Additionally, the Director will lead a team of attorneys and staff and foster an inclusive team culture.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Develop and lead the implementation of . federal legal and policy advocacy strategies to advance the Center’s mission and strategic plan.
- Expand the Center’s profile as a leader in policy development and advocacy, including working on initiatives such as the Women’s Health Protection Act.
- Cultivate new pro bono partnerships and projects with law firms, associations, and schools.
- Represent the Center externally and serve as a strategic advisor and thought partner to Center leadership.
- Build and maintain relationships with key federal policy stakeholders and collaborate with coalition partners.
- Lead and mentor the Federal Policy and Advocacy team, manage work planning and staffing, and create a positive team culture.
- Collaborate with other departments and programs to align strategies and successfully implement projects.

Qualifications:

- JD required with at least 15 years of legal or advocacy experience.
- Bar membership in the District of Columbia required or a commitment to obtain membership within 18 months.
- Experience leading and supervising a team, preferably with experience working with executive leadership.
- Successful experience in developing and implementing policy initiatives at the federal level.
- Dedication to intersectional advocacy and the Center’s human rights-based approach.
- Exceptional communication and advocacy skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues to diverse audiences.
- Creative and strategic thinker with good judgment and analytical capabilities.
- A high level of energy, self-confidence, and initiative, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
