Paralegal B Opioid Use Disorder Legal Support Project - Join Our Team at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA)

Are you passionate about social justice and helping individuals affected by Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)? Do you have experience in legal services, community outreach, and collaborating with direct service providers? If so, Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) is looking for a paralegal to join our OUD Legal Support Project in San Antonio or work remotely. This is a unique opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of those struggling with OUD in our 68-county service area.

Salary Information: $40840 - $54230, depending on experience and qualifications.

Job Title: Paralegal B Opioid Use Disorder Legal Support Project

Experience: Experience in community outreach and organizing partnerships with direct service providers is preferred. Familiarity with Peer Support model is a plus.

Location: San Antonio or Remote

Duration: This project is funded through August 2024, and this position may be limited to that timeframe.

Responsibilities:

- Develop models for legal service delivery using TRLA resources and exploring new organizational partnerships
- Build relationships with organizations focused on treating people with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)
- Travel and visit in-person with providers and staff in specific regions of TRLA's service area
- Occasionally work on location at a partner organization's location, resource hub, or mobile unit
- Maintain a client caseload and provide basic information and referrals to applicants
- Conduct eligibility and substantive interviews in person and by telephone
- Interview clients and witnesses, conduct follow-up on assigned cases, and serve process and subpoenas
- Prepare legal documents and notarize them
- Attend and participate in community group meetings and educational forums to conduct intake and make community legal education presentations
- Assist in preparing legal educational materials and maintain accurate and complete client files and administrative records
- Prepare administrative reports required by TRLA
- Perform other related duties and activities as assigned by the Special Project Director and Attorneys

Qualifications:

- Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and oral
- Willingness and ability to travel
- Flexibility and comfort with operating in environments such as drug treatment centers, homeless resource centers, and other direct services organizations
- Knowledge or experience with issues faced by people with addictions, particularly people with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)
- Knowledge or experience with legal issues impacting people with OUD
- Experience in community outreach and organizing partnerships with direct service providers
- Ability to engage compassionately and non-judgmentally with people struggling with OUD
- Verbal, reading, and writing skills sufficient to comprehend administrative law manuals and to adequately advocate on behalf of clients
- Familiarity with Peer Support model, or willingness to learn
