Criminal Defense Paralegal
The candidate will be working closely with the attorneys and across the organization to assist in a variety of paralegal, administrative support, and office management tasks. Assisting attorneys with all stages of case investigation and litigation, as well as with other administrative and office maintenance tasks. Requesting public records and tracking requests. Performing case opening and closing procedures. Participating in client/witness outreach and interviews, including inside jails/prisons. Organizing, maintaining, and managing case files. Drafting letters and simple legal filings. Managing process service. Reviewing memoranda of law and other legal documents. Reviewing and coordinating discovery, and drafting discovery requests. Compiling benchbooks. Maintaining case calendars. Tracking filing and response deadlines. Ensuring compliance with local court rules; proofreading. Assisting with preparation for all depositions, court proceedings. Paralegal program certificate or an Associate’s degree in legal studies is preferred. Should have 3+ years of experience performing substantive legal work as a paralegal or legal assistant in a busy and demanding law office environment. Spanish skills are required.
