Legal Assistant at a law firm with experience (1-2 years preferred) is responsible for performing a variety of secretarial duties for assigned attorneys. This includes handling administrative functions, maintaining positive contact with clients, attorneys and staff, and ensuring the confidentiality of client matters. The position is full-time with a generous hourly rate of - USD. Responsibilities include: - Supporting clients, attorneys and staff by performing administrative tasks and handling critical tasks - Operating office equipment such as computers, word processors, and fax machines - Drafting legal documents and correspondence - Communicating with attorneys and clients via email, fax, and telephone - Screening telephone calls and taking messages - Managing incoming and outgoing mail - Opening new files and maintaining records and filing systems - Processing bills and managing attorney expenses - Working closely with administrative support staff - Maintaining attorney calendars and deadline reminder systems - Representing attorney by communicating and obtaining information - Proofreading legal documents for errors - Transcribing legal documents at a speed of 70 words per minute - Organizing and prioritizing tasks under time constraints - Providing excellent customer service to clients, attorneys and staff - Working occasionally more than 40 hours per week Qualifications, Skills and Abilities: - High school diploma or equivalent - 1-2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant - Ability to read and write and perform basic arithmetic calculations - Knowledge of law office policies and procedures - Strong typing and transcription skills - Organizational and time management skills - Interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively - Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously - Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines - Willingness to work occasional irregular hours Working Conditions: The Legal Assistant position is based in a normal law office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, and temperature. However, the position may require occasional high mental effort and strain and may occasionally require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties.
