The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a Legal Assistant III-IV to join the Law Enforcement Defense Division (LEDD). This full-time position, located in Austin, Texas, offers a salary range of $5,000 to $5, per month, along with excellent benefits and opportunities for professional growth. Job Summary:
The Legal Assistant III-IV will perform a wide range of legal tasks for the Law Enforcement Defense Division, including creating initial drafts of complex legal documents, coordinating discovery documents, assisting attorneys in trial preparation, and managing attorney caseloads. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of legal principles and procedures, excellent organization and administrative skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities:
• Schedules and prepares legal documents such as pleadings, motions, briefs, and correspondence
• Conducts legal research and analyzes sources such as statutes and case law
• Coordinates the service of subpoenas and other legal documents
• Assists in trial preparation by organizing notebooks, exhibits, and witnesses
• Manages attorney caseloads by prioritizing tasks and maintaining case files
• Reviews and redacts confidential documents for filing
• Files pleadings with courts
• Responds to public information requests
• Travels throughout the state as needed for in-person litigation activities
• Maintains knowledge necessary to perform job functions
• Complies with agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity
• Assists in training other legal assistants, if applicable

Qualifications:
• Graduation from high school or equivalent
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in law or a related field, or equivalent experience
• One year of full-time experience as a legal assistant in civil litigation
• Knowledge of relevant law and legal principles and practices
• Knowledge of state and federal civil procedures
• Excellent organization and administrative skills
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to conduct legal research
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision making
• Ability to receive and respond positively to feedback
• Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment
• Ability to provide excellent customer service
• Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with FLSA
• Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location
• Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
• Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
• Ability to travel up to 10% (including overnight travel)

Preferred Qualifications:
• Three years of full-time experience as a legal assistant in civil litigation
• Graduation from a paralegal course of study
• Knowledge of legal terminology and principles
• Ability to perform legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, or other research tools
• CLA, CP, or RP certification
