## Patent Agent - Life Sciences

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, a leading global law firm, is hiring a Patent Agent to join their Intellectual Property Practice Group. This position may be located in one of their offices across the US and qualified candidates must be registered to practice before the . Patent and Trademark Office. The Patent Agent will be supervised by the local Intellectual Property Practice Group Leader and will be responsible for providing high quality legal services to domestic and foreign clients.

### Responsibilities

* Preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office
* Performing prior art searches and analysis
* Patentability analysis
* Engaging in practice development activities to build and maintain client relationships
* Preparing substantive client correspondence
* Instructing local counsel for foreign filings and Office Actions
* Assisting in patent clearance studies and other patent-related opinion projects
* Applying advanced concepts in any life sciences field, with particular emphasis and/or expertise in molecular biology, cell biology, and/or biochemistry
* Studying and analyzing scientific or technical documents, including previously published patent documents, to assess patentability, novelty and inventiveness
* Drafting new patent applications
* Converting prior provisional applications into utility applications
* Converting foreign filed applications into . applications
* Converting . applications into foreign applications

### Education and Experience

* An advanced degree (PhD) in Chemistry preferred, or another biological field such as Immunology, Molecular Biology or Cell Biology, or similar biologic science, with excellent academic credentials
* Experience as a practicing patent agent in the field of life sciences is preferred
* Registered to practice before the . Patent and Trademark Office required
* Excellent writing and research abilities are a must, as well as proficiency in written and verbal communication, and strong organizational skills

### Salary Range

The salary range for this job posting is: $105, - $157,. The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and the firm reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, firm or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
