With immediate openings throughout the city, this is a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of over 200,000 people facing misdemeanor, felony, and homicide charges. As a Litigation Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting attorneys and clients as a member of the defense team. Your responsibilities will include organizing and analyzing discovery, conducting legal research, drafting documents, and providing in-litigation support. Responsibilities: - Organize and analyze discovery, investigations, and other case materials using applicable data management platforms - Create spreadsheets and logs to manage and organize digital files and case information - Assist attorneys in conducting legal research and drafting documents - Provide in-depth analysis of evidence to attorneys - Liaise between attorneys, clients, and other parties - Coordinate witnesses and prepare them for mitigation or litigation - Oversee the retaining and payment of expert witnesses - Assist in trial preparation, including creating trial notebooks and gathering documents for evidence - Accompany attorneys to court and provide litigation support during hearings and trials - Update case management system as needed - Perform functions of a Paralegal 2, if necessary Requirements: - Bachelor's degree preferred, or paralegal certificate with 5+ years of legal experience - Commitment to advocacy for low-income individuals - Excellent writing, verbal, and organizational skills - Advanced user of Microsoft Office and other document management platforms - Proficiency in legal research and developing legal arguments - Experience with e-filing and e-discovery is desirable - Ability to work independently and in a team setting - Familiarity with New York criminal law and procedures is desirable - Proficiency in languages other than English is a plus To apply, please submit a cover letter and resume as a single combined PDF through the LAS Recruitment Portal.
