A law firm seeks a patent prosecution associate with 3-8 years of experience to join its Electrical & Computer Technologies practice in Washington, . This exciting role offers the opportunity to work on groundbreaking innovations in both the Electrical & Computer Technologies and Biotechnology sectors. The associate will take part in all phases of patent work, managing cases across national and international jurisdictions.

Duties:

  • Work directly with clients and inventors throughout the patent process, from initial consultation to final application.
  • Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications in the . and abroad.
  • Conduct in-depth patentability, freedom-to-operate, and infringement analyses.
  • Assist with additional patent-related matters or special projects as required by the team.

Requirements:

  • 3-8 years of experience in patent prosecution, ideally within Electrical & Computer Technologies.
  • Experience managing multiple patent cases and interacting with clients.
  • Ability to analyze complex technologies and apply legal principles to patent issues.

Education:

  • A degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Admission to, or eligibility for admission in, Washington, . (or other jurisdiction).

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
  • Expertise in patent law and technical understanding of machine learning, molecular biology, sequencing technologies, and related fields.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
