PUC Legal Assistant (Legal Assistant II – IV) Job Description

Job Title:
- Legal Assistant (Legal Assistant II – IV)
- Organization: Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC)
- Primary Location: Austin, Texas

Experience:
- One (1) year minimum experience for Legal Assistant II
- Three (3) years minimum experience for Legal Assistant III
- Four (4) years minimum experience for Legal Assistant IV

Salary:
- Salary ranges from $4, to $5, per month (Pay Basis)
- Salary administration plan: B
- Grade: 18 (B18), 20 (B20), or 22 (B22)

Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research, analysis, and investigation
- Draft legal documents and orders
- Assist judges with case management
- Prepare documents for Commissioner review before open meetings
- Process new incoming cases filed at the Commission
- Send dockets to the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH) for hearings

Qualifications:
- Certification from a formal Legal Assistant Program or Paralegal Certificate Program
- One (1) additional year of work experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, or legal secretary may be substituted for certification
- Work experience in administrative law or utility law preferred
