About the FTC and the Bureau of Consumer Protection

- The FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection enforces laws against unfair, deceptive, and fraudulent practices to protect consumers.
- The Bureau contributes to the Commission's efforts to inform Congress and other government entities about the impact of proposed actions on consumers.
- The Bureau's actions include investigations, litigation, rulemaking, and education for both businesses and consumers.

Summer Law Clerk Program Details

- The program is open to highly motivated second-year law students with an interest in consumer protection issues.
- Law clerks will work with each of the Bureau's divisions throughout the summer: Advertising Practices, Enforcement, Financial Practices, Marketing Practices, and Privacy and Identity Protection.
- The program is small, typically consisting of eight clerks, allowing for meaningful assignments and significant responsibility.
- Law clerks will have the opportunity to draft pleadings, attend hearings and depositions, lead interview calls, and research legal issues.
- Each law clerk will be paired with an attorney mentor for guidance and support.

Eligibility Requirements

- The program is unpaid and requires a commitment of at least eight weeks, up to twelve weeks.
- Applicants must be . citizens and have completed two years of law school by the start of the summer clerkship.
- Applicants must also be continuing in legal studies in the following fall semester.
