The law firm of Jones Day is seeking a Pro Bono Managing Attorney for their Border Project in Laredo, Texas. This is a unique opportunity to lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the firm's pro bono initiative, providing free legal services to asylum seekers along the Texas/Mexico border.

As the Pro Bono Managing Attorney, you will work closely with senior lawyers of the firm and be responsible for training and overseeing volunteer attorneys, facilitating nightly meetings with volunteer teams, providing legal information and consultation to migrants in detention facilities, and supporting trial teams handling detention trials. You will also have the opportunity to mentor and supervise staff in the Laredo office.

This role requires a strong understanding of immigration laws and practice, as well as excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills. The ideal candidate will possess sound judgment, integrity, and leadership skills, and be able to adapt to changes and work collaboratively in a team setting. Spanish language skills are preferred but not required.

To be eligible for this position, you must have a Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and be admitted to and in good standing with a State Bar. Compensation for this position is very competitive and may include reimbursement for transportation and housing costs for qualified candidates who are willing to commute to Laredo on a weekly basis.
