Responsibilities
Advocate on behalf of clients by understanding their needs, effectively analyzing the situation and forming a strategy for a plan of action
Maintain client files to ensure they are properly organized and up to date
Collaborate with senior partners and paralegals to effectively move files through the civil litigation process
Prepare legal documents such as legal pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases
Manage the division of marital assets, including real estate, during divorce proceedings when needed
Develop a strategic approach and provide leadership and direction to paralegals and legal assistants
Manage full case-handling responsibilities from inception through resolution
Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on issues relating to ongoing or potential cases
Draft and review initial pleadings, motions, briefs, and other pleadings
Appear in Court to represent clients
Prepare clients and cases for trial
Interact with clients and work with experts
Cultivate relationships with the firm's existing and future clients
Qualifications
Prior work or studies in criminal justice preferred
Ability to successfully represent both plaintiff and defendant sides of a case
4-year degree with a legal background and . degree are necessary for this position
At least 1-2 years of working in a law firm on family law issues as well as real estate (determining marital property) is necessary
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, especially in highly stressful and emotional situations
Active membership with the ABA (American Bar Association)
Licensed to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia
Must have at least three years of family law litigation experience (This is non-negotiable)
Excellent writing and oral communication skills
Must be familiar with Google Drive and G-Suite products
Preferred Qualifications:
Criminal and/or Personal Injury law experience is highly desired
MyCase (case management system) experience, is highly desired
