Job Title: Director of Paralegal Services Location: New York City Organization: The Legal Aid Society Practice: Criminal Defense Salary Range: $125,000 - $155,000 Job Description As the Director of Paralegal Services, you will oversee a team of over 125 paralegals providing holistic, client-centered representation to over 100,000 individuals facing misdemeanor, felony, and homicide charges in New York City. Your responsibilities will include recruitment, training, and professional development of the paralegal team, as well as developing and implementing policies and protocols for best practices in client representation. You will work closely with the Chief Attorney and other members of the Criminal Defense Practice leadership team to enhance client representation and improve systems and practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Lead the dynamic team of paralegals throughout the Criminal Defense Practice - Recruit, train, and develop paralegal staff in coordination with HR and Training Units - Ensure participation in scheduled trainings and encourage professional development - Maintain statistical reports and monitor work product quality - Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices for paralegal staff - Liaison with Court and other stakeholders to advocate for best practices - Other duties as assigned Physical Duties and Work Environment This role is mostly sedentary, with significant time spent using a computer and monitor. Some travel within NYC to office locations may be required. The work environment is hybrid, with partial telecommuting options available. Salary Transparency and Benefits The specific salary offer for this role will be dependent on candidate qualifications, including collectively bargained salary steps for unionized roles.
