Law Firm Seeks Experienced ERISA/Benefits Attorney for Exciting and Challenging Work in Any Office Location

Shumaker, a highly reputable law firm, is currently seeking an experienced ERISA/Benefits Attorney to join our team. Our ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of employee benefits experience and possess knowledge of retirement plans, health and welfare plans, Taft-Hartley benefit plans, and executive compensation.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing complex case assignments, utilizing strong communication, research, and writing skills, and maintaining ongoing communication with clients. This position also offers the opportunity to work in any of our offices located in Charleston, South Carolina; Charlotte, North Carolina; Akron, Columbus or Toledo, Ohio; Minneapolis, Minnesota; or Sarasota or Tampa, Florida.

Key Responsibilities:

- Engage in sophisticated and challenging ERISA work for clients nationwide
- Manage complex case assignments and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines
- Maintain ongoing communication with clients
- Utilize strong communication, research, and writing skills
- Demonstrate knowledge of retirement plans, health and welfare plans, Taft-Hartley benefit plans, and executive compensation

Requirements:

- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school
- Active bar license for the state in which candidate will work out of
- 5+ years’ professional ERISA law practice experience
- Strong technological skills, including proficiency with practice management systems and portals
- Superior research skills, including the use of online services and databases
- Project management skills, including the ability to successfully manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently and maintain a high degree of confidentiality

Physical Requirements:

- Sitting position static for up to one-half hour at a time
- Lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to one hour per day
- Bending and stooping occasionally, up to one-half hour per day
