In this position, the associate will have the opportunity to prosecute patent applications in the United States and to direct foreign patent prosecution. The attorney will act as an expert to clients on electrical, computer sciences, and software matters. Candidates must have a team-oriented mentality, be a motivated self-starter, and thrive in fast-paced work environments. **Responsibilities:** * Manage all aspects of a busy patent prosecution practice including managing the patent docket and communicating with the USPTO, other attorneys, and clients * Evaluate invention disclosure materials and prepare and prosecute patent applications for software inventions, including machine learning * Provide technical expertise in computer science, software, and related areas * Conduct IP due diligence reviews and evaluate patentability, freedom to operate, any obstacles to securing a patent or practicing technology, and ongoing issues affecting the patent process * Liaise with clients regarding the domestic and foreign patent application processes and communicate with clients to ensure applications are filed on time and deadlines are met * Conduct and participate in client meetings regarding patent research and application processes * Receive training opportunities with growing levels of responsibility * Collaborate across practice groups and across offices * Have opportunities for advancement in a collegial environment * Be allowed to work remotely two days per week **Ideal Candidate:** * Have a bachelor’s or advanced degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field and 3-5 years of experience as a patent attorney * Be familiar with the Application Packaging Standard, the use of APIs in software development, machine learning (both supervised and unsupervised) and platforms for providing SaaS * Be registered and in good standing with the USPTO * Have excellent verbal and written communication skills * Excel in a team environment * Demonstrate a keen interest in developing and implementing relationship-building skills both internally and externally * Have prior experiences that prepare them to work with attorneys, staff and clients from cultures and backgrounds different from their own * Be highly motivated and a self-starter * Be flexible and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment * Have excellent written and oral communication skills * Have excellent law school credentials and references **Benefits:** * Competitive salaries * Quality benefits programs including an annual stipend to support attorneys’ interests and hobbies outside of the workplace * Workplace flexibility * One-on-One Career coaching and outstanding professional development opportunities and support Law firm is looking for a Software/Computer Science Midlevel Patent Associate to join their team.
