Special Litigation

The Special Litigation Section represents the Governor, the Judicial Branch, the General Assembly, the Secretary of the State, the Treasurer, the Comptroller, the State Elections Enforcement Commission, and a variety of other small executive branch agencies. The section also handles a range of appellate and constitutional litigation in state and federal courts involving the State. In addition, through its Public Charities Unit, the section protects the public interest in charitable gifts and in cooperation with the Department of Consumer Protection, administers and enforces state laws regulating charities and professional fundraisers who solicit from the public. Interns have opportunities to provide legal research, draft briefs and pleadings in trial and appellate court cases, and assist in public charity investigation and enforcement actions. Who should apply: Law students are encouraged and priority will be given to more experienced students.

The Attorney General serves as Connecticut’s chief legal officer for civil matters, and the OAG serves as legal counsel to all state agencies. The Connecticut Constitution, statutes and common law authorize the Attorney General to advance the public interest on behalf of the people of our state in legal matters.

Qualification and Experience Internships are unpaid, volunteer positions open to graduate and paralegal, undergraduate, and highly motivated high-school students. Accepted applicants may arrange externships with their schools for course credit for their work in the Office. Positions are also available for work-study students with school stipends. Applicants should have an interest in the law, be able to communicate clearly, have strong research and writing skills and computer proficiency.
