Paralegal- Corporation Counsel The candidate will be responsible for working with and providing legal support services for Corporation Counsel's Legal Advisor to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and occasionally for other staff attorneys. Should be those normally acquired though a degree or certificate from a Certified Paralegal Program. A knowledge of legal terms is required. Effective analytical, communication, organization and computer skills are preferred. Will be reviews and prioritizes a large volume of Public Records Requests, Non-Party Requests for Production of Documents and Subpoena Duces Tecums; Maintains a database with what requests are coming in and when the responses are due; Corresponds directly with attorneys, citizens and coordinate with IMPD employees both civilians and officers; Assists in reviewing discovery and putting responses together; Creates files and draft some pleadings; retrieving pleadings from Court files and how to file pleadings in Court.

Qualification and Experience The candidate must have High School Diploma and/or GED. A college degree, Associate's degree or certificate in paralegal studies or at least 1 year experience as a paralegal is preferred. Should have familiarity with both criminal and civil law and/or law enforcement is also a plus. Must have excellent organizational and time management skills is required. Knowledge of spreadsheet(s), database(s), and other software is preferred. Must be able to establish and set priorities according to time sensitive information in order to have continued success in this position.
