Litigation Secretary/Practice Specialist I at Law Firm in Dallas, Houston, Chicago, or Washington DC Experience: 6+ years in a law firm setting Salary: Competitive and based on experience Work Schedule: Monday-Friday from 6:00 PM-2:30 AM (Central Time)/7:00 PM-3:30 AM (Eastern Time) Department: Support Services (Support at Sheppard) Education: Some college courses completed, Bachelor’s Degree preferred License/Certification: Secretarial Certification a plus; ABA approved Paralegal Certification preferred Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, an Am Law 50 firm, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Litigation Secretary/Practice Specialist I to join our Support at Sheppard Department. This position will provide coverage for the evening shift and can be based in the Dallas, Houston, Chicago, or Washington DC office. As a Litigation Secretary/Practice Specialist I, you will be responsible for formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying, scanning, and transmitting legal documents. You will also be responsible for preparing pleading and discovery documents for filing and service, as well as e-filing in state, federal, and appellate courts. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of litigation and trial procedures, federal and state court rules, and excellent technical, organizational, and administrative skills. Strong interpersonal communication skills are also essential as this position will involve working and interacting with all levels of firm personnel. Responsibilities: - Format, input, edit, retrieve, copy, scan, and transmit legal documents - Prepare pleading and discovery documents for filing and service - eFiling in state, federal, and appellate courts - Create litigation binders, index and file case documents - Edit contracts - Perform business intakes - Utilize docketing/calendaring department to track court and filing deadlines - Manage attorney timesheets, expense summaries, and client bills - Assist with overflow work and other projects as assigned - Perform additional administrative and support tasks as requested Qualifications: - 6+ years of experience providing litigation support in a law firm setting - California litigation experience preferred - Some college courses completed, Bachelor’s Degree preferred - Secretarial Certification a plus; ABA approved Paralegal Certification preferred - Excellent computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications and document management software - Type 75+ wpm with excellent spelling, grammar, and punctuation - Ability to learn new skills and systems quickly - Strong organizational and time management skills - Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment - Professionalism and ability to handle high-pressure situations Sheppard Mullin offers a hybrid work arrangement with the expectation to be in the office on an as-needed basis. This position will accommodate the schedule of 6:00 PM to 2:30 AM (Central Time) and may require overtime as job duties demand.
