Organizational Overview: - The Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) is a government agency responsible for advocating for the rights and well-being of Native Hawaiians. - The Legal Counsel position provides legal advice, guidance, and assistance to the CEO, General Counsel, and OHA on a variety of issues and concerns. - The starting salary for this position is between $82,512 to $101,304 per year, with the actual salary based on qualifications. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: - The Legal Counsel is responsible for providing legal services, including rendering legal interpretations, conducting legal research, and drafting legal documents and instruments. - Regular attendance on a daily basis is required for this position. - Other duties and responsibilities may include performing confidential legal tasks and special projects as assigned by the General Counsel. Minimum Qualifications: - Education: Graduation from an accredited American law school - Licensure: Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Hawai‘i and a member in good standing with the Hawai‘i State Bar Association - Work Experience: Six (6) years in the practice of law, with at least three years of practice in Hawai‘i and experience in applying Hawai‘i procurement laws, drafting and reviewing public contracts, and conducting legal research and opinion writing. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Working knowledge of state and federal laws, statutes, regulations, and policies applicable to OHA and its mission. - Demonstrated skills in conducting legal research, writing/editing legal documents, negotiating agreements, and effectively communicating with a wide variety of audiences. - Ability to manage data and records, maintain professional relationships, and use computer software for drafting legal documents and managing workloads.
