NYLAG is seeking a Paralegal Fellow to join their team in New York City. This is a full-time entry-level position with a salary range of $51,289 - $55,449. As a leading civil legal services organization, NYLAG is dedicated to combatting economic, racial, and social injustice by advocating for those experiencing poverty or crisis. With a staff of 370, NYLAG provides services to over 129,000 individuals and families annually.

As a Paralegal Fellow, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by advocating for older adults and people with disabilities who need access to Medicare and Medicaid to remain in the community. This includes counseling clients on Medicaid eligibility, helping them apply for services, and troubleshooting problems through advocacy, including administrative hearings. The Paralegal Fellow will work with a diverse client population, including those with Limited English Proficiency, and must be fluent in Spanish, Chinese, or Russian.

Responsibilities for this position include managing a caseload of clients, providing direct representation and advocacy, conducting client intake, participating in case review and staff meetings, and assisting with educational presentations and policy advocacy efforts. The Paralegal Fellow may also be required to travel within New York City to meet with clients and attend outreach events.

To be considered for this position, candidates must have a bachelor's degree, with 2024 graduates considered with an immediate start date. Fluency in at least one of the three most spoken languages among LEP older adults in NYC (Spanish, Chinese, or Russian) is required. Experience with public health insurance programs, including Medicaid and Medicare, is preferred. Strong written and oral advocacy skills, as well as proficiency in MS Office, are also desired.
