Attorney Development Manager or Senior Manager

Greenberg Traurig (GT), a global law firm, has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for an Attorney Development Manager or Senior Manager in the Professional Development department in our New York City office.

Position Summary:

The Attorney Development Manager or Senior Manager (ADM) will work alongside the firm’s Director of Attorney Development and other Managers on the Professional Development (PD) team to develop and implement innovative programs to onboard, train, mentor, develop, engage, and retain the firm’s attorneys with a focus on associates and professional development initiatives. This position is a firmwide role with a focus on the GT New York City and other New York offices and will be based in GT’s New York City office. The expectation is that the ADM will be in the office four days per week and otherwise as needed. The ADM should have the ability to travel to multiple firm office locations as necessary.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Firmwide Projects

• Lead or contribute to firmwide projects such as Associate Retreats, Associate Review Process, Firmwide First Year Associate Orientation, Legal Writing Academy, and Mentor programs.

Regional and Global Practice Group Responsibilities

• Manage and lead firmwide projects, office responsibilities and global practice group responsibilities.

Regional Responsibilities

• Develop a deep understanding of the culture of each office
• Meet with, foster relationships, and effectively communicate with Managing Shareholders and Career Development Liaisons (CDLs) on a regular basis in each office
• Develop and administer training programs, live, virtual, and hybrid, that meet professional development goals, including assistance in developing program materials; manage project timelines; assess quality and quantity of attorney development opportunities
• Identify appropriate training and delivery methods to achieve business objectives
• Coordinate local programming in partnership with the CDLs, including CLE programs; facilitate, implement, and teach local program as needed
• Understand the associate population and oversee the engagement of associates
• Provide an associate orientation to the PD department and programming and assist with integration into the office and the firm
• Welcome new shareholders to the offices and provide PD department highlights
• Provide integration opportunities for new associates including introductions to others
• Work with associates on strategies for success and individual career development, including business development plans
• Meet with, build relationships, communicate, and collaborate with Business Directors, HR Managers, Marketing, and other firm departments
• Monitor the mentor program and ensure all associates in your region have mentors
• Travel to the offices on a regular basis or as programming warrants
• Reinforce or advertise webinar programming to associates and encourage attendance
• Assist with the associate evaluation process on a regional level
• Track and provide reports on region’s PD efforts and training metrics to key leadership and management
• Stay current on trends and best practices in leading learning and education solutions

Global Practice Group Training and Programming

• Meet with Global Practice Group Heads (PGH) at the beginning of each year to plan professional development programs for the year
• Work with the shareholders in charge of practice group training to develop training programs and identify effective teaching methods
• Oversee course catalogs, resources, and competencies related to the practice group
• Evaluate programming and recommend content and process improvements
• Track and provide reports on Practice Group PD efforts and training metrics to Global PGH

• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively and collaboratively to create support for strategies and processes
• Enthusiastic team player who motivates and educates other team members
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent attention to detail
• Passion for driving change and delivering innovative solutions
• A highly organized and self-directed approach to work with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• A diplomatic and creative problem solver
• Possess superior judgment and respect and maintain confidential and sensitive information
• Proven ability to build trust and gain buy-in from firm leaders and other key stakeholders
• Experience and comfort with facilitating programs

Qualifications & Prior Experience:

• A Juris Doctor degree is required as well as strong project management skills; a background practicing law at a large law preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of attorney professional development experience; significant experience in a large law firm is also preferred
• Two years of prior supervisory experience desired
• Demonstrated success establishing, developing, and managing robust career development functions in a national or international, multi-office environment
• Familiarity with learning management systems, adult learning techniques, and online learning technologies a plus

Salary & Benefits:

The expected annualized base salary range for this position is $155, to $190,. Full time employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, health insurance with an optional HSA, short term disability, long term disability, dental insurance, vision care, life insurance, Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, 401K, vacation, sick time, and an employee assistance program.
