Job Title: Paralegal A Youth Specialist Organization: Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) Salary: $39,840 - $53,230 per year Service Area: Foster Youth Justice Project H1: Join Our Team as a Paralegal A Youth Specialist H2: Become a Part of Our Foster Youth Justice Project The Paralegal A Youth Specialist position at TRLA is a great opportunity for individuals who have a passion for working with youth and a desire to make a positive impact in their lives. This position offers a competitive salary range of $39,840 - $53,230 per year and is located within the Foster Youth Justice Project. Responsibilities: - Conduct eligibility and substantive interviews with youth applicants in person and over the phone - Manage the project's hotline, voicemail, and email communications - Provide mentoring and guidance to youth applicants and clients - Interview clients and witnesses - Conduct follow-up on assigned cases, including investigating facts and researching law - Prepare legal documents and other necessary materials for clients - Assist with outreach activities and workshops for foster youth - Represent the project in meetings and trainings with other organizations addressing foster youth issues - Maintain and update the project's web page and resources - Oversee the publication process for the project's "Aging Out Guide" - Process requests for the guide and brochures - Assist attorneys with processing requests for CPS records, foster youth benefits, and identification documents - Develop forms and letters for case handling - Attend community group meetings and make legal education presentations - Accompany clients and project staff to court, social service providers, and CPS proceedings - Prepare legal educational and outreach materials - Maintain accurate and complete client files and administrative records - Translate (if bilingual) - Notarize legal documents - Serve process and subpoenas - Other duties as assigned by branch or team manager Qualifications: - Experience working with youth between the ages of 15-22 - Strong interest in working with youth population - Good verbal, reading, and writing skills - Computer skills, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - required - Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and a self-starter - Valid driver's license and ability to travel - Preference given to alumnus of foster care At TRLA, we are committed to providing fair and equal employment opportunities to all job applicants and employees.
