Job Title:
Legal Clerk - Entry Level to Full Performance - Kona, Hawaii Island

Job Responsibilities:
Legal Clerk I:
- Perform routine clerical tasks involving the preparation, typing, maintenance, and processing of legal forms, documents, and materials.
- Assist with more complex tasks under close supervision for training purposes.
- Perform additional duties as required.

Legal Clerk II:
- Conduct a wide variety of legal clerical work in support of attorneys.
- Prepare, process, and file moderately difficult legal clerical work.
- Execute more challenging tasks under supervision and guidance on a progressively responsible basis.

Legal Clerk:
- Independently perform a variety of complex legal clerical work in support of attorneys.
- Prepare, process, and file complex legal and court documents with courts or quasi-judicial bodies.
- Prepare a successive variety of documents for each case requiring specialized procedures for preparation, processing, and filing.
- Prioritize assignments to complete the preparation and processing of legal and court documents within time constraints and established deadlines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Information:
Legal Clerk I:
- Experience: One year of progressively responsible clerical work experience involving the preparation, typing, processing, and filing of legal documents, or receiving and examining complex business documents for compliance with statutory or contractual requirements.
- Knowledge of office practices, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and clerical requirements for preparing and typing complex documents.
- Ability to accurately prepare, type, process, and file complex documents within prescribed deadlines; research and present information; establish and maintain files and systems of records; operate computer equipment for document preparation and data management; work under time constraints; explain legal processes and procedures; type accurately at 40 net words per minute; and effectively interact with attorneys, court personnel, and the public.

Legal Clerk II:
- Experience: One and a half years of progressively responsible legal clerical work experience involving the preparation, typing, processing, and filing of legal documents.

Legal Clerk:
- Specialized Experience: Two years of progressively responsible legal clerical work experience involving the preparation, typing, processing, and filing of legal documents.
- Knowledge of legal terminology, court functions, legal document formats, court actions, and legal office practices.
- Ability to prepare and file legal and court documents in proper format; carry out legal office clerical routines; communicate effectively; maintain harmonious working relationships; and type accurately at 40 net words per minute using a computer and relevant software applications.

Substitutions Allowed:
- Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements will apply.

Skilled Typing:
- Applicants must be able to type accurately at the rate of 40 net words per minute using a computer and relevant software applications.

Salary Information:
- Legal Clerk I: $3,354 to $4,240 per month (SR-10, Step C to I)
- Legal Clerk II: $3,621 to $4,582 per month (SR-12, Step C to I)
- Legal Clerk: $3,917 to $4,959 per month (SR-14, Step C to I)
- Note: Hiring rates will be based on the availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.
