Court Reporter- Juvenile Division The candidate will be responsible for the recording, transcription and preservation of all court proceedings. Court Reporters are responsible for maintaining evidence, exhibits and providing administrative and managerial duties on behalf of the Court. Records and reports all court proceedings. Transcribes record of proceedings when ordered. Answers court telephones and questions from the attorneys and general public. Maintains exhibits, depositions, tapes and notebooks of all proceedings of the court. Maintains permanent card/exhibit files of all reported cases. Assist other staff members in duties essential to the operations of the court program. Some courts require the following duties and responsibilities (in courts requiring these responsibilities, 20% of time is spent with these duties and 50% of time is spent with Recording and Reporting Court proceedings): type orders, entries, documents and jury instructions; prepares and maintains files; prepares correspondence and distributes as required by the court; assist with the scheduling of cases on the court calendar; assist with the monitoring and ordering of supplies needed for the operation of the court.
Qualification and Experience The candidate should have High school diploma or equivalent; college course work, clerical or administrative experience and paralegal training preferred. Stenography skills a plus. Should have knowledge and understanding of legal terminology and civil and/or criminal procedures. Must have ability to type at an advanced level (45 wpm minimum) while maintaining accuracy of complex and lengthy material; knowledge and use of proper grammar and spelling; able to use and interpret state and local laws, local and state trial rules, standards and guidelines for the court; able to meet strict deadlines.
