Job Title: Paralegal A Youth Specialist Organization: Texas RioGrande Legal Aid Department: Foster Youth Justice Project Salary Information: $39840 - $53230 / year Experience: Experience working with youth between the ages of 15-22; preference given to alumnus of foster care TRLA is currently seeking a Paralegal A Youth Specialist to join our Foster Youth Justice Project. This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse and dynamic team, providing legal services to foster youth in the TRLA service area. As a Paralegal A Youth Specialist, you will play a crucial role in assisting attorneys in the practice of law and helping foster youth navigate the legal system. Responsibilities: - Conduct eligibility and substantive interviews with applicants in person and over the phone, even outside of the office setting - Manage the Project hotline, voicemail, and email communications - Provide basic information and referrals to applicants, including those who are ineligible for services - Mentor and guide youth applicants and clients, providing ongoing oversight to assist them in resolving their legal issues - Interview clients and witnesses - Conduct follow-up on assigned cases, including investigating facts, obtaining additional information, and regularly reviewing and following up with clients and service providers - Prepare legal documents and other necessary materials to assist clients in resolving their legal issues - Assist with outreach activities, including workshops for foster youth and aged-out youth, as well as service providers who work with the foster youth population - Represent the Project in meetings, workgroups, trainings, and other activities with other organizations that address foster youth issues - Maintain and update the Project's web page, including resources and links - Oversee updates to the Project's "Aging Out Guide" and publication process - Process requests for "Aging Out Guide" and brochures - Assist attorneys in processing youths' requests for CPS records, foster youth benefits, identification documents, and other materials - Develop forms and letters for case handling - Attend and participate in community group meetings and educational forums to conduct intake and make community legal education presentations - Accompany clients and/or project staff to court, social service providers, public agencies, and CPS proceedings and meetings - Prepare legal educational and outreach materials - Maintain accurate and complete client files and administrative records, including data entry into client database and other requirements - Prepare administrative reports required by TRLA - Translate (if bilingual) - Notarize legal documents - Serve process and subpoenas - Other duties as required by the branch or team manager Qualifications: - Experience working with youth between the ages of 15-22 - Strong interest in working with youth population - Good verbal, reading, and writing skills - Computer skills, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - College degree required - Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and a self-starter - Valid driver's license and ability to travel - Preference given to alumnus of foster care At TRLA, we value diversity and strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all employees.
