McDonald Hopkins, a full-service law firm, is currently looking for a Member level Trusts and Estate Planning attorney to join their team in either the Cleveland or Detroit office. This is a great opportunity for an experienced attorney with a minimum of 10 years of experience in complex estate planning, estate and trust administration, estate and gift tax strategies, business succession planning, and estate and gift tax return preparation. The ideal candidate will also have a book of business and be willing to take on the practices of retiring lawyers.
The Estate Planning and Probate practice group at McDonald Hopkins serves sophisticated clients and works collaboratively with other practice groups within the firm. As a member of this team, the candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to a progressive and dynamic environment. The firm is looking for a creative self-starter with strong organizational skills and excellent communication abilities. Candidates with an LLM or business background are preferred, but it is not a requirement for the position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal counsel and services in the areas of complex estate planning, estate and trust administration, estate and gift tax strategies, business succession planning, and estate and gift tax return preparation.
- Collaborate with other practice groups within the firm to serve sophisticated clients.
- Develop and maintain a book of business.
- Take on the practices of retiring lawyers.
- Stay updated on industry trends and changes in laws and regulations.
- Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
- Attend meetings, conferences, and other professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in complex estate planning, estate and trust administration, estate and gift tax strategies, business succession planning, and estate and gift tax return preparation.
- Admission to the bar in the state of Ohio or Michigan, depending on the location of the office.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Experience with business and tax laws.
- LLM or business background preferred.
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
- Book of business preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and legal research databases.
