**Job Title:**
2025 Attorney General’s Honors Program Participant
**Job Responsibilities:**
Participants in the Attorney General’s Honors Program will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of legal and policy-related activities, depending on their assigned issue area. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing legal, regulatory, and policy strategies, particularly in areas such as Social Media Accountability and Data Privacy/Cybersecurity, and other assigned subject matters.
- Engaging in investigations and enforcement actions, particularly concerning issues like data breaches and unauthorized use of personal information.
- Formulating policy and legal strategies in their assigned division and subject area.
- Investigating cases, drafting legal pleadings, negotiating with opposing counsel, and arguing in court or before administrative bodies.
- Participating in workshops and training sessions to enhance legal skills and understanding of the full scope of the work performed by the Attorney General’s Office.
- Potentially rotating through different assignments and working directly with the Attorney General’s Executive Leadership Team on priority projects and policy development.
**Education and Experience Information:**
Eligibility for the Attorney General’s Honors Program is open to:
- Third-year law students.
- Students in the final year of other graduate law programs (., LLM program).
- Judicial clerks who will complete their clerkship by September 2025, and who began the clerkship immediately following graduation from law school or a fellowship program.
- Individuals who will complete a fellowship by September 2025, which began immediately following graduation from law school or clerkship.
Applicants must submit several documents, including a writing sample, statement of interest, resume, law school transcript, and references. There is no specific GPA requirement, but selections are based on academic achievement, scholarship, legal writing, research, advocacy skills, and demonstrated interest in public service.
**Salary Information:**
The starting salary for participants in the Honors Program varies based on bar admission status:
- If admitted to the New Jersey bar at the start of employment, participants begin as Deputy Attorneys General with an annual salary of $93,.
- If not yet admitted to the bar, participants start as Law Clerks with an annual salary of $59,494. Upon admission to the New Jersey bar, they are promoted to Deputy Attorney General with the corresponding salary increase.
Participants are entitled to employment benefits, including health and dental insurance. Honors Program attorneys assigned to the Division of Law are also entitled to union membership privileges.
**Additional Information:**
- The program requires a two-year commitment to the Attorney General’s Office.
- Participants must undergo a background check and become members of the New Jersey Bar within six months of starting the program.
- Participants must establish New Jersey residency within 12 months of starting or obtain an exemption as per the New Jersey First Act.

- Interviews are conducted in-person or virtually, and offers are extended in January – February 2025.
