Job Title: Attorney General’s Honors Program Participant
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with the Solicitor General on high-priority cases, develop strategies, draft briefs for appeals and dispositive motions, and participate in argument preparation and moot courts.
- Deliver oral arguments and be involved in multiple appeals at all levels of the federal and state judiciary, including the . Supreme Court.
- Participate in various subject matter areas such as Antitrust, Civil Rights, Cyber Crimes, Environmental Justice, and others within the Honors Program.
- Formulate policy and legal strategy, investigate cases, draft legal pleadings, negotiate with opposing counsel, and argue in court or before administrative bodies.
- Attend workshops and trainings to develop legal skills and understand the full range of work performed by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
- Opportunity for rotations to different assignments in the second year, including working directly with the Attorney General’s Executive Leadership Team on priority programs and policy development.
Education and Experience Information:
- Open to third-year law students, students in the final year of other graduate law programs (., LLM program), judicial clerks completing their clerkship by September 2025, and individuals completing a fellowship by September 2025.
- Applicants must submit a writing sample, statement of interest, resume, law school transcript, and identify two professional references.
- No specific GPA requirement, but selections are based on academic achievement, legal writing, research skills, interest in public service, and leadership activities.
Salary Information:
- Starting salary for participants admitted to the New Jersey bar at the start date is $93, annually as Deputy Attorney General.
- Participants not yet admitted to the bar will be hired as a Law Clerk at an annual salary of $59,494. Upon admission to the New Jersey bar, they will be promoted to Deputy Attorney General at the same annual salary of $93,.
- Employment benefits include health and dental insurance, and union membership privileges for those assigned to the Division of Law.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Open to a diverse pool of highly qualified applicants.
- Must commit to two years of service with the Attorney General’s Office.
- Undergo a background check before employment.
- Become a member of the New Jersey Bar within 6 months of starting the program.
- Establish New Jersey residency or obtain an exemption within 12 months as required under the New Jersey First Act.
