Job Title: Legal and Compliance Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and guidance to various departments concerning data protection, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, privacy, fraud, anti-money laundering, and other operational matters.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations by conducting legal research and staying updated on changes in laws that may affect the company.
- Manage the company’s compliance policies and procedures and develop new policies to address emerging issues or developments in applicable laws/regulations.
- Collaborate with compliance staff located in Texas to ensure efficient functioning of compliance processes and appropriate development of the staff.
- Serve as legal counsel to the Claims Committee, Special Investigations Unit, and Climate Change Working Group.
- Provide legal review of operating contracts and analyze third-party security risks.
- Respond to and manage regulatory and government inquiries, attorney complaints, subpoenas, levies, and liens.
- Manage market conduct inquiries and exams.
- Assist with claims adjudication and dispute resolution.
- Assist in product development and existing product support, including drafting insurance policies, coordinating form filings, and providing legal advice regarding coverage terms and conditions.
- Coordinate with external counsel as needed.
Education and Experience Information:
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a corporate legal department of a regulated entity or law firm representing regulated entities.
- Knowledge of life insurance products and operations preferred.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience managing people and processes.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience in regulatory compliance for a regulated entity, including cybersecurity, privacy, and vendor management preferred.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to a state bar and in good standing.
Salary Information:
- Base salary/hourly rate range for this position in Connecticut is between $150,000 and $180,000.
- Specific compensation decisions are based upon a variety of job-related factors, including geographic location, credentials, skills, education, training, and experience.
- Base salary is one component of the company’s total compensation package, which includes an annual performance-based bonus, 401K with employer contribution, and a profit-sharing program.
- Employee may also be eligible for long-term incentives (equity), subject to the applicable plan terms.
