Summer Legal Fellowship
Legal Interns and Volunteers – Safety Net Project

Job Responsibilities:
Legal Interns/Fellows will undertake a variety of responsibilities to support the Safety Net Project's mission, including but not limited to:
- Assisting SNP’s Staff Attorneys in litigating cases in Housing Court.
- Engaging in legal research and writing to support ongoing cases and initiatives.
- Conducting client intakes and outreach to better understand and address client needs.
- Corresponding with social service agencies to provide comprehensive support for clients' cases.
- Attending building-wide and/or client meetings to gather relevant information and provide updates.
- Delivering files, checks, and documents to staff attorneys in court, ensuring the smooth progression of legal proceedings.

Education and Experience Information:
This position is targeted at law students who are seeking legal internships. While the position is unpaid, the organization is committed to assisting students in obtaining financial support from their legal institutions. This opportunity is ideal for students who wish to gain hands-on experience in housing law and advocacy for low-income populations.

Salary Information:
The position is unpaid. However, the organization will provide support to help students secure financial assistance from their respective legal institutions.

Project Description:
The Safety Net Project is dedicated to advocating for safe, secure housing and access to fundamental resources such as food and cash assistance for underserved and marginalized communities in New York City. The project leverages a combination of legal services, policy advocacy, new media campaigns, and community organizing to drive forward the movement for economic justice.

UJC Description:
The **Members Only** is committed to serving New York City’s most vulnerable residents. It does so through a multifaceted approach that includes direct legal service, systemic advocacy, community education, and political organizing. The organization comprises 12 distinct projects that provide assistance at various levels, ranging from offering one-on-one legal advice in soup kitchens to filing class action lawsuits aimed at systemic change, and advocating for social justice legislation.
